I grew up near New York City. I had never imagined leaving home, but when my wife and I first arrived to Hong Kong in 2005, I felt like it was the start of a new adventure. Living far from home, family, friends and familiar comforts is never easy. When I talk to my mom, she tells me to keep faith in God and to always look at the stars. The stars that I see in the sky are the same ones that she can see back home. This way, she says, we are always together, connected in faith, hope and love.
Every day has its challenges, disappointments and rewards. As a teacher, I tell students that life is tough, so one must strive to be tougher. And the best way to become tougher, I believe, is to lead a life of love. Love for yourself. Love for others. Love for life. When your heart is filled with love, all things are possible. Such ideas are easier to write and say, than to do every day. That’s the key, to put love into action to make our lives and the world a little bit better.
